For housing, look at bonds over MBS or federal debt

This is the first time I am writing about mortgage backed securities (MBS) because I hardly ever consider this aspect of the housing ecosystem in my work. But since now even Federal Reserve members are discussing the pros and cons of MBS, this is a good time to give you my take. The 10-year yield has been in a downtrend since 1981, and so have mortgage rates, so the MBS market hasn’t eve been a focus of mine.

For many Hispanics, homeownership built on family support

Better.com to acquire UK-based digital mortgage brokerage

Venture capital-backed mortgage lender Better.com is going international. The company, which is expected to go public later this year, has agreed to acquire United Kingdom-based digital mortgage brokerage Trussle. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Financial Times reported that SoftBank -backed Better bought Trussle for a “cut-price,” one that values the mortgage brokerage at just $9 million.

Buyer love letters have been banned in Oregon

Oregon has just made it illegal to include a so-called “buyer love letter” when submitting an offer on a home. The bill was signed into law by Oregon Governor Kate Brown last week. It states that seller’s agents must now reject any communications from home buyers to sellers that contain any information outside of the actual offer they are making. Oregon is the first U.S. state to ban buyer love letters in a real estate transaction.
