After bottoming out at 19% in the first quarter of 2022, the popularity of new homes continues to rebound, as the share of buyers looking for new construction rose to 21% and 27% in the second and third quarters of the year, respectively. A possible factor behind this trend is that the inventory of new homes for-sale is 25% higher.

Home price growth slows further in August

Annual home-price growth slowed further in August, with year-over-year price gain shrinking for the fifth consecutive month, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index , released Tuesday. Nationwide home prices posted a year gain of 13.0% in August, bringing the index to a reading of 303.76. In July , the index saw a year-over-year increase pf 15.6%.

The MBA forecasts a recession in the first half of 2023, with the unemployment rate at 5.5% and inflation at the 2% target by the end of next year.
