Single-Family Permits Decline in August 2022

Over the first eight months of 2022, the total number of single-family permits issued year-to-date (YTD) nationwide reached 728,866. On a year-over-year (YoY) basis, this is 6.0% below the August 2021 level of 775,772. Year-to-date ending in August, single-family permits declined in all four regions. The South posted a modest decline of 3.9%, while the Midwest region reported the steepest.

Builders up incentives in attempt to hammer out deals

Nearly two-thirds of builders surveyed reported a year-over-year decrease in sales in September, according to the BTIG/HomeSphere State of the Industry Report published on Monday. At 63%, this is the largest share of builders to experience an annual decrease in sales in the survey’s 59-month history. A year ago only 25% on respondents reported a decrease in sales.

Bank of America’s mortgage production declines 40% in Q3

Bank of America delivered increases in revenues and net income in the third quarter of 2022, showing that some of its business lines were not walloped by high levels of inflation and economic contraction. That was not the case for the depository lender’s mortgage business. Overall, the bank recorded $7.1 billion in net income from July to September, besting the $6.2 billion in the second quarter of 2022.
