We were amazed to find longtime Fort Greene grocery store Greene Grape Provisions shuttered when we stopped by this morning. The entire building was vacated by order of the DOB on Wednesday, August 3.

A notice from owner Amy Bennett on the storefront, located at 767 Fulton Street, promises “We’ll be back, Fort Greene!”

The store’s Instagram explains the grocer recently uncovered “structural concerns” and says they hope repairs will be completed in about one month.

It says:

During a recent administrative office move at Provisions, we uncovered some building repairs, and brought in some engineers to take a look. Unfortunately, we are told that there were structural concerns that need to be addressed right away.

In the interest of safety for our staff and community, the building at 767 Fulton St has been vacated. As a result, we have temporarily closed Greene Grape Provisions, as well as our catering and mail order operations to make necessary repairs to ensure the store is structurally sound and safe to operate. We’re hopeful that the repairs will be complete in about a month. Our sister store, @greenegrapewine is A-OK and open for business. Stop by and say hello, sample some killer wine, and maybe even stock up on #Champagne before our grand reopening!

We understand that this is a shock and that many of you will have questions and concerns. Stay tuned to our social media channels, and we’ll share more news as soon as we can. See you soon, #fortgreene!

The business started as a wine shop, The Greene Grape, and grew into a mini empire up and down Fulton Street that at various times included a cafe and ice creamery. One of the most expensive grocery options in the borough, the popular and always busy boutique business carries organic produce and has a butcher counter, prepared foods and a cheese counter.
