Grab a picnic, head to Tarrytown and spread out on the Bowling Alley Lawn of the great gothic mansion Lyndhurst for the return of the annual Sunset Jazz series.

Kicking off on July 7 and running through August 25, the series offers eight Thursday evening concerts presented by Jazz Forum Arts. Among the performers are the Fukushi Tainaka Organ Quartet, the Mia Brazilian Jazz Ensemble, the Nat Reeves Quartet and the Houston Person Quartet.

The Lyndhurst grounds open at 4 p.m. each concert evening and attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket. There is also the handy option of pre-ordering food from local market Geordane’s for pickup when you arrive or making your selection on site. For cooling off purposes, a soft serve ice cream truck will be on hand.

The music starts at 6:30 each night and ends by 8 p.m. with the grounds closing promptly after the wrapping up of the festivities. All concerts are free, but there is a $10 per person fee for entry to the Lyndhurst grounds at 635 South Broadway in Tarrytown. The fee supports continued programming at the historic site.

For the full lineup of performers as well as details on weather cancellation, alcohol and picnic policies, visit the event page online.

While the historic mansion itself will be closed during the concerts, if you want to get a look at the amazing interiors there are multiple tours over the summer and the ongoing exhibition “Women’s Work” will be on view through September 26.
