With a richly colored interior, this row house in the Fort Greene Historic District embraces a bit of 19th century design aesthetic while also not ignoring modern amenities like a renovated kitchen and central air.

Dating to circa 1859, the brick row house is one of stretch of transitional Greek Revival/Italianate houses built by Edward Robbins, according to the designation report.

The legal two-family has a garden apartment with a triplex above. The bold colors are found on the parlor level, where a front parlor has deep red wallpaper and coordinating striped border along with portieres and windows adorned with gilded cornices alongside the original mantel and plasterwork. The mantel is one of four in the house, all with working fireplaces.

Green predominates in the dining room, where there is a colorful Greek Revival-inspired finish on the wainscoting and a delicate painted border at the ceiling. There’s more plasterwork, and French doors open out onto a deck.

A slightly more subdued green covers the cabinets and trim in the adjoining kitchen, which benefits from floor-to-ceiling multi-paned windows, a door and bay window looking out onto the yard. The stove niche is ornamented with scenic tiles, and a bracketed shelf above provides some room for showing off a collection.

The stair leading to the two bedroom floors — and the central air — is original but with replaced risers and treads, according to the listing.

The second floor could be set up as a suite with library at front and bedroom and bath at the rear. The top floor includes two bedrooms, a small office and a full bath. The listing also notes there is a “midnight kitchen.” The two baths have some vintage-inspired style, one with bead board and the other with white subway tile.

Outside, the landscaped rear yard includes a Koi pond, fountain and planting beds.

Listed with Robert McCain of Compass, it is priced at $4.85 million. What do you think?
