This week, a look back at four of our featured listings from six months ago focuses on homes in Prospect Heights, Kensington, Sunset Park and Fort Greene. How did they fare?
A top floor one-bedroom with in-unit laundry has the delights of its era and appears to be in move-in condition. It’s located at 394 Lincoln Place in Prospect Heights, an early 20th century walkup just a block from the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. Inside, the four-room apartment has parquet with inlaid borders, low wainscoting, picture frame moldings and coved ceilings. The entry is large, with room for a bench, table and storage. This former Co-op of the Day sold in August for $682,000, which was 32,000 over the asking price.
This standalone in Kensington has some period details, and while a new owner might want to make some style tweaks, it appears move in ready. There are moldings, an original stair and a columned mantel, but the added baseboard heat is perhaps not to everyone’s taste. The single-family does offer plenty of space with five bedrooms on the upper two floors. There is also a generous yard and a private driveway. This former Open House Pick sold in October for $1.785 million, which was $86,000 over the asking price.
There aren’t a huge number of photos of the interior of this brownstone in the Sunset Park South Historic District, but the few available show some intriguing elements including mantels, built-ins and tin ceilings. The two-family at 469 54th Street offers some potential for those interested in some modern upgrades while restoring some fine details. Originally a single-family, it is now a two-family residence with a top floor rental over an owner’s duplex. The duplex has a kitchen and original dining room on the garden level and two bedrooms and a full bath above. This former House of the Day sold in August for $1.42 million, which was $20,000 over the asking price.
With a richly colored interior, this row house in the Fort Greene Historic District embraces a bit of 19th century design aesthetic while also not ignoring modern amenities like a renovated kitchen and central air. The legal two-family has a garden apartment with a triplex above. The bold colors are found on the parlor level, where a front parlor has deep red wallpaper and coordinating striped border along with portieres and windows adorned with gilded cornices alongside the original mantel and plasterwork. The mantel is one of four in the house, all with working fireplaces. This former House of the Day sold in October for $4.65 million, which was $200,000 under the asking price.
