Although no one would call it capacious, this one-bedroom apartment has elegant prewar details, a modern minimalist kitchen and low monthly maintenance. It’s located on the top floor of 59 Pineapple Street, a six-story, 40-unit elevator building in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District.

Built in 1926 and designed by Slee & Bryson, according to the LPC map, the restrained red brick building is dotted with limestone neo-Classical details such as rope molding, keystones, arched entrances and ornate pilasters. In 1933, apartments in the building were advertised as suitable for teachers and nurses with layouts of one or two rooms with kitchenettes and moderate rents.

The apartment opens into a foyer with coat closet. The square-ish living room has high ceilings, wood floors, wall moldings and picture rails. The plaster walls, original doors and wood floors continue throughout.

The petite kitchenette off the living room has a window and has gotten a sleek update with simple white cabinetry that wraps around a corner of the living room, offering some extra storage space. There is a dishwasher.

The bedroom is big enough for a king size bed and assorted furniture. There are two closets.

Accessed via the bedroom, the bathroom has also been updated to match the kitchen, with a gray tile floor, vertical white subway tile, white Deco tub/shower and rectangular wall-hung sink.

Mysteriously, the apartment has a second entry door in the living room. There is laundry in the building, a shared roof deck, and storage available for an extra fee.

Open houses are set for Thursday and Sunday, and the maintenance is $642 a month. Listed by Crystal Zahedi of Compass, the unit is asking $550,000. Worth it?
