Back on the market with new photos, some slight design changes and a price drop, this Italianate brick home in Gowanus still has its contemporary style on display. Renovated and decorated by the designer couple of Merrill Lyons of Lyons Design Studio and Charles Brill of Rich Brilliant Willing lighting, the house has had its fair share of press attention. It was featured in Dwell in 2016 after being gutted and refinished.

Located at 191A 8th Street, the streamlined two-family was a House of the Day in 2019 when it was priced at $3.195 million. The new listing photos show the bold pop of orange in the entry has been toned down with a coat of gray paint and some artwork and furnishings, including some lighting fixtures, throughout the house have been switched up (and a cat now makes an appearance) but there haven’t been any significant alterations. The owner’s duplex still has a unified aesthetic of white walls, gray painted trim and pale flooring. Some remaining marble mantels give a nod to the original design origins of the house.

Minty green cabinets and brass fixtures and hardware enliven the kitchen while the rest of the finishes are kept light, including the gray hexagonal tile floor. Color makes an impact in a powder room with bold blue and green patterned walls and a luxe-looking soapstone sink.

Upstairs a bedroom suite includes a bath with a walk-in shower and walk-in closet. Two additional bedrooms share another full bath.

The garden level one-bedroom rental also got some new staging but still has its white and black kitchen, oak flooring and in-unit laundry.

While the rear garden image seems to have been switched out for a rendering showing succulents filling the raised planters, those wanting to grow their own veggies or cutting garden once the growing season is in full swing can also benefit from the drip irrigation system.

Before the current renovation, the house sold for $1.41 million in 2014. Now with a change of brokers and price, it is listed with Jessica Buchman and Sephrah Towbin of Corcoran at $3.095 million. What do you think?
