Located within the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District, the late Romanesque Revival-style brownstone dates to 1892, but its most cited connection to history is the brief time it was home to baseball legend Jackie Robinson. The fact that his residence was likely as short as a few weeks was highlighted when the row house was on the market for $2.875 million in 2016 and Brownstoner featured it as a House of the Day.

In addition being awash in period detail, this unit is spacious and has a layout that is flexible, although there might be some drawbacks for renters. Downstairs and facing the street is the original wainscoted dining room, which could be used as a bedroom. There is another bedroom at the rear with an ensuite bath. While renovated with a large marble-lined shower, it is the only bathroom in the apartment, making the layout a less-than-ideal setup for roommates.

For some renters, the lush details, particularly on the parlor level where there are high ceilings, stained glass, a huge pier mirror at front and an ornately carved decorative mantel with mirror and shelves at the rear, might more than make up for the quirky layout. There is also the appeal of in-unit laundry and a private backyard.

Speaking of gardens, the house is set on a stretch of Stuyvesant Avenue where residents take their plant growing seriously, last earning the top honor of Greenest Block in Brooklyn in 2017.
