Renovated West Midwood Standalone With Wood Burning Fireplace, Parking Asks $2.5 Million

This early 20th century standalone got a recent makeover that left the charm of the front porch intact while giving the interior a new look that included partly opening up the floor plan of the first floor, renovating all of the wet rooms and adding a bathroom. Left intact inside the West Midwood home are some of the period details such as stained glass, wood floors with inlaid borders and the original stair.

At 16 De Koven Court, the circa 1905 single-family was an Open House Pick in 2022 when the estate condition property, visible in an old listing, was in need of a bit of TLC and on the market for $1.6 million. It sold for $1.4 million and, according to the current listing, the renovation included a new roof, mini splits, a new boiler and hot water heater. Apart from those items, there’s no mention of updated plumbing or electrical.

On the main level, the entry got a coat of new paint, including black paint on the stair, the stained glass was left in place and the original floor was given some attention. The entry now opens into a large living room, created from two smaller parlors. It has wood floors and white walls and trim.

The white finishes extend into the dining room with the brick fireplace wall (a remnant of a previous renovation) for the wood burning fireplace painted white. The stained glass window and the horizontal window below it were left intact.

In the kitchen there is a new bank of white cabinets with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher and recessed lighting.

On the second floor are three bedrooms. The largest bedroom faces the street and has a walk-in closet and a new en suite bath with white fixtures. The other two bedrooms share another full bath.

The top floor is set up as a family room and guest suite with a bed nook and another full bath with a blue vanity and gray tile floor.

There is a private driveway and a landscaped rear garden with stone paths. It appears that the intense amount of latticework, presumably added sometime in the late 20th century, that once framed the rear facade has been removed.

Listed with Laura Rozos of Compass, the property is now priced at $2.5 million. Worth the ask?
