Role & Responsibilities:

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Symbium, you will play a pivotal role in executing US-based business development initiatives with a focus in local government. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding Local Government Dynamics: Demonstrate a deep understanding of the structure, procurement processes, and operations of local building departments.
  • Business Development: Identify and prospect sales leads, progressing each prospect from the “discovery” stage to the “scoping/proposal” stage as appropriate. Attend events and tradeshows, as needed.
  • Inbound Coordination: Be responsive to all inbound inquiries from prospective customers and partners interested in adopting Symbium.
  • Outbound Cadence: Reach out to prospects diligently and on an scheduled basis via email, phone, and LinkedIn to educate them on Symbium’s services.
  • Organization of Discoveries: Host face-to-face Zoom meetings with prospective customers to understand their business challenges and goals. Organize and take thorough notes on prospects.
  • Input into Strategic Partnerships: Provide key input into functions beyond business development, particularly contributing insights into strategic partnerships.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with the product team by transitioning identified prospects as appropriate.
  • Feedback to CEO and Product: Help build playbooks and define Symbium’s sales motion. Work to hit pipeline and revenue generation targets.

Experience & Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Sales Experience: 1+ years of experience in sales or sales development at a SaaS tech and high-growth environment.
  • Proven Local Government Understanding: Demonstrated experience in understanding the structure, procurement processes, and operations of local building departments.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to align business development initiatives with broader sales goals and company strategy.
  • Creative Problem Solver: Ability to operate comfortably within gray areas and identify and propose creative or out-of-the-box solutions when faced with challenges.
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication skills to articulate Symbium’s value proposition and build relationships.
  • Self-motivated: Proactive and able to work independently to achieve business development goals.
  • Positive Attitude: A tireless positive attitude is essential to the success of this role. You have strong grit, especially when navigating uncharted territories.
  • New People: A love for getting to know new people and helping them solve their business problems with patience, warmth, and organization. You LOVE talking to prospective customers, always interested in digging deeper and learning more.
  • Technical Confidence: Comfort with speaking confidently about technical implementations.

Nice-to-haves:

While not mandatory, the following attributes would be beneficial:

  • Experience in PropTech or GovTech: Familiarity with Property Technology or Government Technology industries.
  • Existing Local Government Network: An established network within local government circles and, in particular in building and community development departments.
  • Tech-savvy: Comfortable navigating CRMs and staying updated on technological advancements.
  • Passion for Sustainability: A genuine interest in contributing to projects that drive environmental sustainability.
