Once a year, House Beautiful Magazine selects a worthy contender for its annual Whole Home project. But let’s be clear — House Beautiful’s Whole Home is so much more than your standard renovation.

The project incorporates a talented team of the country’s best designers (this year, for the first time in history, they happened to be all-female and spearheaded by the renowned local builder, J. Jordan Homes) while promoting readers to invest in their own renovation rather than tear down a home — especially one with historical value.

505 Country S County Line Rd in Hinsdale, IL is a stately abode that effortlessly exudes class and elegance, so it’s no surprise that it is also the 2023 House Beautiful Whole Home Winner.

The property has always fit right into the prestigious community with stately architecture and impeccable craftsmanship sitting on over 3 acres of lush landscaped grounds.

Now, thanks to House Beautiful’s Whole Home renovation, it’s reached unparalleled new heights with a swanky yet tasteful redone interior that blends contemporary, state-of-the-art amenities into the property’s regal and antique framework.

And one lucky buyer will get to enjoy the fruits of their labor, as the striking century-old property is currently on the market — sporting a $9,999,999 price tag.

“This home has been a crown jewel of the Hinsdale community for over 100 years,” listing agent, Dawn McKenna told Fancy Pants Homes in an exclusive quote.

Redesigned in the early 20th century by noted Chicago architect David Adler, the home has his hallmark reverence for symmetry, balance, classical porticoes and expertly proportioned Georgian-style sashes,” McKenna added.

“It’s extremely rare to find a home with this type of history to be modernized the way it has.” And we couldn’t agree more.

A property unlike any other, each room of the Chicago-area house boasts a distinct stylish personality — and it’s clear to see that no inch of the 13,000-square-foot home was left unnoticed in the design process.

The all-star team innovatively combined textures, patterns, and colors to create an atmosphere that is nothing short of livable art, all while highlighting the historic home’s most notable assets.

The goal was to keep the vintage charm of the 8-bed, 9-bath home while still updating it with a modern twist. Judging by the flawless pictures, the designers did so exquisitely.

To start, they elevated the home to today’s modern standards with ample lighting — quite the challenge for such an old house.

One focal point embodying the project’s theme of blending old with new is the staircase, featuring a sleek and modern chandelier that juxtaposes the century-old original stained wood of the railing.

Each room has its own theme that brings the space to life.

While the salon gives a nod to Moroccan style balanced out by mid-century furniture and decor, the owners’ suite is another thing entirely.

Embodying a maximalist garden theme with over-the-top prints and patterns that mesh perfectly with the wood and wicker furniture, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to the tropics as soon as you set foot into the playful bedroom.

Here are some of the other mesmerizing rooms inside House Beautiful’s Whole Home 2023, one more enchanting than the other:

A stately facade and fashionable interiors aren’t all 505 Country S County Line Rd has to offer.

It conveniently comes with a sauna and steam room, elevator, bowling alley, and outdoor pool perfect for hosting Hinsdale’s best summer parties (along with the home’s designated party pad, of course).

We can all agree that the home is so exquisitely designed that it feels more like a piece of art rather than a house to live in.

But for one person with $10 million to spare, living in the lap of stylish luxury will soon become a reality.
