There are two things Miami Vice villain Sebastian Ross is best remembered for: one is his faithful English Bulldog, Edwina, and the other is his imposing mansion, meant to highlight his status as a key player in Miami’s crime syndicate.

And while we have no idea what happened to Edwina, we do have some updates on the memorable Miami Vice-featured mansion, which recently landed on the market with a cool $29.9 million price tag.

The historic home, set at 3467 North Moorings Way and dubbed Villa Serenita, is one of only 35 homes that line the leafy streets of the gated neighborhood of The Moorings, one of the most prestigious private bayfront communities in Coconut Grove, Miami.

Renier Casanova with Compass Florida holds the listing, and we’re here to take you on a quick tour of the memorable movie home.

Architectural pedigree & designer interiors

The architecturally distinct home was originally designed by renowned Miami architect Walter De Garmo, who also designed the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove and the 1907 Miami City Hall, among countless other luxury residences.

The property has been restored by several other notable designers over the years, including Portuondo Perrotti architects and most recently, Bunny Williams in 2022.

It blends historical charm with contemporary luxury

The interiors bear the signature of AD100 designer Bunny Williams, best known for her handcrafted furniture and accessories — sold under her Bunny Williams Home brand — and unique, unpredictable approach to interior design.

With a keen sense of history and a willingness to take unexpected paths, Williams stands out as both a trailblazer and a tastemaker in the design world. Her modern reimagining of classic styles shines throughout the Coconut Grove mansion, with each room of the house boasting a distinct, vibrant design.

Williams’ decorating DNA combines her Southern upbringing and appreciation for gracious living with the expertise she gained at notable firms like Stair & Co. Antiques and Parish-Hadley Inc.

This unique blend of influences has made her a sought-after designer for decades and is reflected throughout the 6,268-square-foot residence.

The dining room is both dramatic and serene

The dining room in particular caught our eye, with its unique blend of dramatic decor and bright, calming hues.

It also features an intricate fireplace, doors that open up to the verdant outdoor areas, and ceiling detailing that gives the whole room an elegant, distinguished vibe.

The primary suite opens up to water views

The primary suite steals the show with its generous proportions, warmth, and enviable water views. In fact, when prompted to chose one of the most impressive areas of the house, agent Renier Casanova was quick to single it out:

“It’s hard to pick a favorite in this beautiful residence but I would say that my favorite room is the spacious primary suite for its sweeping views of the water, bay and the gardens. The living room is a close second thanks to its arched windows and views over the gardens as well as its water views. The hand-painted cathedral ceilings are just spectacular here.”

Rightfully dubbed Villa Serenita

The property’s name translates into ‘Serenity Villa’, and given its idyllic location, lush surroundings, proximity to the ocean, and timeless architecture, we think the name is a perfect fit for this distinct property.

Outdoor amenities abound

There’s no shortage of outdoor spaces to take in all the mesmerizing water views.

3467 North Moorings Way lists among its outdoor amenities an inviting pool, seating areas, a tranquil fountain, and a picturesque Koi Pond.

Pro landscaping adds to the appeal

Framing the generous water views are the lush grounds overlooking the shimmering waters of Biscayne Bay, artfully completed by the acclaimed SMI Architects.

The lauded landscape architecture firm based out of Palm Beach, Florida specializes in master planning, garden design, landscape preservation and restoration, and botanical gardens/parks. And the results speak for themselves.

It’s set in one of Coconut Grove’s most exclusive communities

Coconut Grove has always been where celebrities, CEOs, and successful families have chosen to settle when looking in Miami,” agent Renier Casanova tells us, referencing the many celebrities that have called Coconut Grove home over the years.

Madonna, Derek Jeter, LeBron James, and Christian Slater have all owned homes here. But 3467 North Moorings Way is not only set in Coconut Grove, it’s part of one of the most exclusive enclaves in this ritzy area.

The Moorings gated community

Within Coconut Grove, The Moorings is one of the most coveted communities because of the location, the privacy, the waterfront lifestyle and in the end also the sense of arrival when you enter the gates,” Renier says.

Plus, it offers the ability to walk into town, walk your children to school, and live a relaxed lifestyle in the middle of this incredible buzzing city. To add, very little ever comes up for sale. In Fact, most of the homes in the community trade either off-market (when they ever trade at all). The lucky few that call the Moorings home end up purchasing other homes in the neighborhood and keep them as generational homes.”

And its prices reflect the exclusivity of the area. The most recent sale in the community traded in an off-market deal for just under $50 million, breaking several local records.

The house was featured on ‘Miami Vice’

Back in 1989, the Coconut Grove property was once featured in the hit TV series Miami Vice (episode Miami Squeeze). The house made such an impression that fans recently set out to find it themselves, revealing its location on a forum dedicated to the series.

But if you happen to be too young to remember the show, we’ll happily bring you up to speed. The series, which ran for five seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1989, followed two Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami.

Starring Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, the TV show — with its authentic ’80s music, fashion, and overall vibe — is almost like a time capsule.

And the property’s agent was a fan too

We couldn’t help but wonder if the agent that currently reps the 3467 North Moorings Way listing tuned it to watch the hit ’80s show where the property was featured. Turns out, he did:

Yes! I love the Miami Vice Series and I think it did so well to put Miami on the map as a destination,” Reinier says in an exclusive quote for Fancy Pants Homes.

While it gave us a reputation that has since been hard to clean up, it was definitely important for the city’s international glamorous appeal and continuous growth,” he added.

Any ‘Miami Vice’ fans out there looking for a manse to buy?

Hopefully, there’s a die-hard Miami Vice fan out there with deep pockets and a keen eye for architecture who would love to take this historic gem off the market.
