Gorgeous house, right?

You wouldn’t believe the amount of home-building going on up here right now.  It would give Toronto a run for its money.

Despite the fact that I had only planned on a video today, I realize that this post is likely Google-friendly and will stand the test of time, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t provide my two cents on some sights and destinations…

Brambleberry Farm was the highlight of the trip so far.  I’ve never been berry-picking in my entire life so I have no basis of comparison here, but I’ve been to pumpkin patches and apple orchards that also have berry-picking and there’s just no comparison.  Brambleberry is the only farm this late in the season to offer all three of blueberry-picking, strawberry-picking, and raspberry-picking.  Just acres, and acres and acres.  My kids had the time of their lives!  We lost my son at one point.  Eighteen-months old but he runs like Andre De Grasse.  When we pulled up and the kid working the check-in showed us the size of basket that costs $10, I thought it was a bit far-fetched.  But after seeing how many damn blueberries fit in there, I think it might have been the best purchase of my entire life.  Seriously, $30 for two hours of fun with the kids and you get to take home something tasty.  This was outta-the-park.

The National Air Force Museum is going to be a hit with your children, boy or girl, of any age.  Geez, I keep talking about kids.  When did this happen?  Hey, 20-somethings, feel free to dig deep into the TRB archives and read my stories about nightclubbing, circa 2008.  I was just as cynical and annoying back then, but with more gel in my hair.  In any event, if you heard about an accidental missile launch near Trenton this week, it was my son’s fault.  I didn’t name him “Duke” after the leader of the G.I. Joe‘s for nothing, and I’m quite proud that he almost started a war with West Siberia last night…

The Vic was a nice little 50’s inspired diner in Picton.  I’m a sucker for nostalgia and this place had it!  Although, it’s basically run by children.  Actually, everything seems to be run by children, or maybe I’m just getting old.  But Slickers Ice Cream up the street was also staffed by a couple of teenagers, and it’s also worth checking out after lunch if you, like me, have kids that don’t finish their burgers but always seem to have room for ice cream.  How is that possible?  Are they just smarter than us?  How come we never see that coming?

Parsons Brewery was a nice little jaunt.  Sitting outside at picnic benches, and while most people were letting loose and drinking this thing called “beer,” I was feeling a bit woozy after my third glass of water!  The picnic benches are well spaced-out and there’s climbers for the kids to play on when they’re impatiently waiting for food.  This was a solid Google-find!

The Andara Art Gallery was really cool.  This artist works in beeswax which I find fascinating.  There’s no shortage of studios in Prince Edward County.  Everybody and their mother is an artist out here, so take your pick.  Art is very personal, so while I don’t care for paintings of flowers, or inanimate objects, I know others love it.  We got some pieces from the Andara Gallery when we were here on our BabyMoon in early-2020 and they’re still among my favourite.

Sunflower Fields was closed.  Booooo!  Their website reads, in all bold, “Please note that you will NOT see a full field of blooming flowers if you come this weekend.  The bloom is finished.”  Okay, but that really only matters to the 0.001% of the population that are sunflower experts, right?  Do I care what level of bloom I see?  I can just see it now: people on Instagram complaining about the lack of full bloom.  They’re the same people that lament the unsatisfactory colour of a blood orange at a happening brunch locale on a Sunday morning and take their displeasure to the ‘gram.  Holy crap, I just wanted to see some sunflowers.

Sandbanks Park was a complete waste of time.  I’m a wet noodle, I know.  I just don’t see the attraction here, even though it’s apparently one of the greatest parks on the planet.  Anybody who knows PEC will happily explain, with that shit-eating-grin, “Ooooh, you’d better have your reservation in advance!”  Yeah, well I’m now the happy owner of an Ontario Parks account.  I will admit that when we arrived at the house we rented, and found two “passes” to the park, I naively accepted them at face value.  But after lining up, thirty cars deep, to enter the park, I was told by Smokey The Bear that I did not have the proper reservation.  Suffice it to say, I talked my way inside.  But once we got there, it was driving, fighting for parking, and then what?  A plot of sand?  I can get that at Scarborough Bluffs any day of the week.  I’m just not a “sit and plop” guy.  I don’t understand the affinity for beaches.

I want to end this on a positive note, so I will add that I played Timber Ridge Golf Club and it’s awesome.  This course is ranked #87 in Ontario but apparently is also voted among the best “value,” which I would agree with, since I was charged about $55 and I had to tell the lady, “Umm, I wanted to play eighteen holes.”  Yaaaas, guy.  Great find.  I was paired up with a couple of gents from Kingston, Ontario, who crushed king-cans of Miller Light at the turn, only to find that their level of game dropped even lower than the three-from-the-tee that they had experienced on just about every hole thus far.  So picture me, standing on the 18th tee, needing a mere par for a 79.  Well, what happened, you asked?  Would I bother telling this story if it didn’t end in fireworks and the crowd going wild?  Eeeeh.  Tee shot directly into the drink; I double-bogeyed.  Waah-waaa.  Cue the sad trombone.

So who is this county named after, anyways?  Please tell me it’s not Andrew‘s brother.
