After today’s jobs report , which showed unemployment at 3.7%, it’s now clear that the Federal Reserve does not need to create a job-loss recession to bring down the growth rate of inflation. The Fed has much to answer for after their massive rate hikes and quantitative tightening policy. These were created to bring down inflation by impacting the labor market but they disproportionally affected housing in a negative way.

Employers picked up the hiring pace in November, shaking investors’ confidence in the Federal Reserve ’s likelihood of cutting interest rates in 2024. November job gains grew faster than expected, posting an increase of 199,000 jobs in November, up from 150,000 in October, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Employment growth stayed below the average monthly gain of 240,000 over the previous 12 months but aligned with job growth in recent months.

A former mortgage consultant who worked for Wells Fargo and ultimately brought a case against the company in a Southern California court over allegedly being fired for complaining about discriminatory lending practices has settled with the company, according to reporting from Los Angeles-based radio outlet KNX News. Attorneys for both parties jointly filed papers in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Sept. 14, explaining a settlement agreement “in principle” was reached.

In 2021, I pointed out that with the end of the foreclosure moratoriums, combined with the expiration of a large number of forbearance plans, we would see an increase in REOs in late 2022 and into 2023. And there was a slight increase. However, I also argued this would NOT lead to a surge in foreclosures and significantly impact house prices (as happened following the housing bubble) since lending has been solid and most homeowners have substantial equity in their homes.
